The show had some fun moments and I liked seeing their territory grow, but it is another anime in a long line of not actually providing in what the premise is supposed to be. In most episodes the baking amounted to nothing more than a few jokes and instead we had bandits, nobles and a war to content with.

Unfortunately, one of the pitfalls of isekais that rely on a very specific hook to differentiate them is just how limiting that can be. Maybe the making sweets aspect would be more meaningful if this really were "Food Wars in a Fantasy World." Or at least something where those particular skills hold significance beyond tasting better than what people are used to eating. Instead, what makes Pastry formidable is a combination of more modern knowledge and a magic skill nobody else has.

There is so much more possible to make more of the premise. Have his magic be sweets related or have his pastries have magical effects, making him a magician who uses sweets to heal and buff. In the end this one feels like an average isekai with the sweets aspect slapped on to try and make it stand out while the aspect in question is not doing anything remotely special. The anime just plays it too safe.
