Early Death Note Scriptwriter: Netflix's Film Is Like Michael Mann's Heat With Teens
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
In an interview with film news website Collider posted on Monday, scriptwriter Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) described his work on Netflix's live-action Death Note film. He had penned a draft of the script, but had to leave the project to work on The Exorcist television series. He notes that he thinks the production "used quite a bit of my script., as a jumping off point." The production eventually hired Kyle Killen (Lone Star, Awake, Mind Games) for the final rewrites on the script.
He described the film as "[1995 Michael Mann film] Heat, except with teenagers, and one of those teenagers has superpowers." He added that the script is attempting to stay close to the "moral complexity" of the manga.
The film's director Adam Wingard (The Guest, You're Next) recently elaborated on the film with Collider, noting the film's level of violence, describing it as a "kind of nasty and crazy film."
The film will premiere via streaming on Netflix in 2017.
